Membership is open to any and all players in Canada’s Smart Grid industry.


Membership Eligibility

Any public or private entity that provides consumes goods, services and/or support in the areas of communication, control or information technologies for enhancing functionality within any electric system or electricity market shall be eligible to apply for membership in SmartGrid Canada. This includes, but is not limited to: equipment manufacturers, federal and provincial agencies, information technology companies, utilities, energy service providers, system operators, labs, universities, public interest groups and other non-profit organizations.


Full members

Eligibility
Canadian public and private businesses

Description
Any such business that supports SmartGrid Canada’s purposes is eligible for full membership.

Benefits
Such members may serve on the Board of Directors, and join or lead upcoming Work Groups. Full members are invited to participate in all SmartGrid Canada activities and receive voting rights.

Associate Members

Eligibility
Government agencies and other non-profit agencies

Description
Government and non-profit agencies interested in SmartGrid Canada’s purposes are eligible for associate membership.

Such members may serve on the Board of Directors, and join or lead upcoming Work Groups. Associate members are invited to full participation in all SmartGrid Canada activities and receive voting rights.

Affiliate Members

Eligibility
Education community, including colleges and universities

Description
Those in the education and research community involved in the development of Smart Grid are eligible for affiliate membership.

Such members may serve on the Board of Directors, and join or lead upcoming Work Groups. Affiliate members are invited to full participation in all SmartGrid Canada activities and receive voting rights.

International Members

Eligibility
Public and private businesses outside of Canada

Description
Any public or private business operating outside of Canada may apply for international membership, provided they support SmartGrid Canada’s purposes.

Benefits
While international members may join Work Groups and participate in activities, they are regrettably ineligible for roles on the Board of Directors and do not receive voting rights.

Applying for Membership

  • Complete the online application form
  • The Executive Committee will review and approve all application requests.
  • Membership commences when dues are received.

Membership Details

  • Membership is dependent on size and class of organization and ranges between $1,500 - $10,000/yr.
  • Dues are to be paid by January 31st of each year.
  • New members’ dues are pro-rated.
  • In the event that dues are left outstanding, membership will be suspended.
  • Members requiring reinstatement must pay the year’s full membership dues, without pro-ration.
  • We regret that refunds are not provided.
